There was never any man to whom the word could have been more appropriately applied. His birth coincided with the return of Halley’s Comet from its 75-year orbit through the solar system, a fact Twain delighted in. Because some Saints construed Smith's words to mean that the Second Coming of Christ was near at hand, they also had mixed emotions about the Civil War.
